The rules have been reconsidered and reorganized for easier reading.  The post with the old rules and all the update threads have been removed.  Any updates from now on will be added directly to this post, a new post will be made to highlight the thread and summarize the changes.  The date of the last update will always be displayed in the thread title.

ARTICLE I
Posting and Conduct

I. Offensive Content —  Posts in normal out-of-character chat may not contain offensive language or inappropriate content such as pornography or promoting content of questionable legality.   Offensive content such as hate speech, racism, and political/religious extremism is also not allowed.  Your own characters may be presented as racist (for example) as part of their character, however if it goes too far the content will still be removed, and it is never to be carried over into an out-of-character situations.

II. Flaming and Trolling —  No posts in the OOC sections shall contain any flaming or trolling, which is to say, insults or hostile remarks directed at another member or part of the forum, openly ranting in a non-constructive/rude way, or posting in an attempt to provoke other members into replying with hostile or time-wasting responses.   In roleplaying sections insults can be used, but only for roleplaying purposes (characters may insult other characters; however, members may not insult other members).  Making real-life threats to a member is also strictly forbidden.

III. Profanity —  Users should refrain from frequent use of harsh profanity.  The site has no censor, however, harsh language is to be reserved for intense moments while roleplaying and should never be used out of character or in reference to anything in reality.  We expect members to have the maturity to censor their own posts when their language is too strong, however the staff will do so for you if the need arises.

IV. Advertising/Spam —  Users are certainly permitted to suggest or show other games, websites, videos, etc, all of which may be posted in the Chat section.  However, this right is reserved for regular forum members only; newly registered accounts created for advertising purposes with no intent to participate as a forum member are not allowed and will be removed.  It is also strictly forbidden for anyone to advertise for business purposes or profit.  In addition, it is forbidden to post spam, which we classify as a blank or meaningless post which does not add anything at all to the topic.  Excessive emoticons will also be removed from the post if you use too many, and large pictures should be enclosed in spoiler tags, as they can cause page-loading problems for users with slow internet connections.

V. Post-hunting —  It is forbidden to post useless posts with the sole intent of increasing your post count.  An example of this would be to post a new topic that merely says: *walks into the room, looks around, then leaves.*  We will not, of course, punish any posts that develop the character or add to a plotline, or are intended to be added to or developed by other members.

VI. "Out-of-Character" Posting —  So called "Out-of-Character" posts are posts that make reference to things that are not part of the roleplaying world.  Out-of-Character posting in a roleplay would be akin to a character in a movie making a comment to the camera crew.  The majority of OOC posting should be done in (get ready for this) the sections at the top of the forum that are marked "OOC".  If you want to make an out of character comment in a post, you should place "OOC:" before your comment and enclose it in parentheses.  An example: *Glenwing walks into the room looking very tired* Anyone here? Hello?  *Looks around the room and shrugs* (OOC: Hi everyone!  Sorry I've been gone but I've been tied up with work all week!)

ARTICLE II
Roleplaying

I. Over-powered Characters —  Characters should be realistic, with obvious strengths and weaknesses, as well as making occasional mistakes.  Your character should never have abilities that give you a large and unfair advantage, and your character should never be able to do anything that this forum has established as impossible.  Characters that are too powerful, and perfect in every way are boring to play and even more boring to read.  If you are new, don't worry too much about this, we understand if you are not familiar with the universe and communicate with you via private message if you have broken the impossibility rule.

II. Controlling Other Characters —  Characters are forbidden to post actions or words of another character unless both characters are owned by the same person, or if permission has been given beforehand from the account owner.

III. Injury and Death —  It is forbidden to kill another character or to inflict life-altering permanent injury on them (i.e. loss of limb) without permission from the character's owner.

IV. Unusual Characterisics —  If you intend to create a character with unusual power, knowledge, or characteristics (wings, mysterious powers, talking pet dog, etc.), you must notify an administrator and obtain permission from them via private message before participating in any roleplaying of any kind, as we do have to ensure that they can be explained in the roleplaying universe established.

ARTICLE III
Accounts

I. Realistic Names —  Character names must be pronounceable, containing no special characters such as # or @, or using numbers as replacements for letters.  If you do register with such a name you can change your name at any time by clicking on the profile button at the top of every page.

II. Appropriate Names —  Character names must be appropriate, containing no profanity, racism, or insults.  Names must also be original; they cannot be the name of a famous person or famous fictional character.

III. Ranks and Titles —  Usernames may not contain ranks (such as General or Captain) or titles (such as Lord or Sir) unless approved by an administrator.  Ranks and Titles are displayed on your profile already, and there is no need to include them in your name.

IV. Account LimitEach member may only control 3 active accounts at once.  Characters that are removed from the storyline, either by departing the academy or by dying, are not counted towards this limit as long as they do not post in a roleplaying section.  Posting in OOC sections is perfectly acceptable.  This rule is not in effect until further notice.

V. Avatars and Signatures — Avatars and Signatures must comply with Article I of the rules.

While these rules can cover a lot, they cannot cover everything, so we reserve the right to modify or remove posts or ban accounts without notice and with or without direct infraction of the rules above if we feel that they are inappropriate for this forum in some way.  If you feel you were banned or warned unfairly, send a private message to me.

Now that you've managed to slog through that... go have fun!

Rules updated.  Changed rule number 1 from banning racism to banning offensive content of that sort in general.  Hate speech, racism, anti-semitism, religious/political extremism, etc.

Updated definition of flaming/trolling, updated the Death clause to include permanent injury, and clarified advertising/spam definitions.
